Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Aluminum maker Constellium plans to build a plant in Europe to increase its recycled aluminum capacity by at least 60,000mt.

The new plant will cater to providing recycled aluminum slabs for the company’s automotive and packaging businesses in the region, the French aluminum maker indicated in a statement on Feb 4.

The plant’s location is still being finalized and will be dependent on engineering requirements and permits required for such a project, the company noted. However, it expects to begin production within a couple of years after the plant’s construction commences.

The company stated that recycled aluminum helps reduce carbon footprint as it uses only 5pc of the energy required to produce prime material.
