The official period for the consultation regarding San Ciprian aluminium plant in Spain ended on September 28 without an agreement with the workers’ representatives.
Alcoa has 15 days’ time to announce its decision regarding the smelter in Spain that has an annual capacity to produce 228,000mt of primary aluminium.
Alcoa had earlier announced that it is extending its formal consultation period collective dismissal so that the company could decide to sell its plant to CFG Alliance.
On June 25, 2020, Alcoa began its formal consultation and reorganisation plan with the workers’ representatives. This step was taken on the backdrop of the recurrent financial losses at the aluminium plant in Spain. The plan was regardnthe curtailment of the smelter and keeping a portion of the site’s cast house operational
The alumina refinery at San Ciprián was not included in the consultation or the sales process.
