Italy’s crude steel production dropped by 40.2pc in March from a year earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Federacciai, the association for the country’s steel producers.
Output fell to 1.367mn mt last month from 2.285mn mt in March 2019. Through Q1 2020, Italy’s crude steel production declined by 16.2pc to 5.278mn mt from 6.3mn mt during the same quarter last year.
Italy’s flat steel product production declined by 30.5pc in March to 830,000mt from 1.194mn mt a year ago, while output during Q1 2020 decreased by 13.3pc to 2.669mn mt from 3.079mn mt.
Long steel product output significantly declined last month by 46.7pc to 662,000mt from 1.241mn mt in March 2019. Likewise, long steel product production fell by 18.6pc to 2.630mn mt from 3.23mn mt during the same quarter a year ago.
