Emirates Global Aluminium’s (EGA) Al Taweelah smelter has completed its second phase expansion with an estimated annual capacity increase of 30,000mt.
The Abu Dhabi unit has an additional 26 reduction cells in potline 2. EGA had completed expanding Al Taweelah’s potline 1 in April 2021, whereas the plant’s third potline is slated for a ramp up later this year, noted the company on Jul 13.
With 66 new reduction cells, EGA’s production capacity is likely to increase annual output by 78,000mt of hot metal annually. The company announced that the expansion schedule is ahead of time, stands at 80pc completion.
EGA sold 2.52mt of cast metal in 2020, it also sells primary aluminum domestically.
In November 2020, EGA signed an agreement with NEO Aluminio Colombia to develop the first aluminium production facility in South America.
In December 2020, the company signed agreements with PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) to facilitate the ramp-up of Inalum’s aluminium smelter in North Sumatra.
