Ellwood Specialty Steel, Part of the Elwood Group, has commenced building of its $4mn distribution center on October 8, which will lead to more efficient aluminum product deliveries to customers of Elwood Aluminum.

Processing and storage project expansion is being carried out at its plant in Wilmington Township Pennsylvania and is scheduled to be completed in April or May of 2021. It will work with the Elwood Aluminum’s new aluminum plant in Hubbard Township, Ohio which begun operations in August. Elwood, a company that had been largely focused on steel for over 100 years, is now venturing into aluminum production. It intends to serve the automotive and aerospace markets, according to media reports.

The company’s aluminum plant has a capacity of 68,040mt per year. Aluminum demand is projected to continue expanding, with the current billet and slab market is projected to reach $100mn. Ellwood is targeting a share of $10mn over the next few years with the intent to capture 50pc market share within 10 years.

This expansion provides the group with a facility to store and process billet, along with its current supply of steel. It also adds production capability, more promptly, enabling a fully integrated supply chain right from melting to delivery.
