Emirates steel has awarded the general designer contract for its new flat steel plant to Tata consulting engineers. The scope of the 10-month contract includes evaluating and studying all phases of the project, along with assessing logistics and environmental issues.
The plant aims at having the lowest carbon footprint in the MENA region and will expand Emirates steel’s annual production capacity to over 5mn mt.
The development of a flat steel plant necessitates having an accurate and rapid study for all aspects of the project, stated Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, CEO of Emirates Steel, in a company release. Also, the collaboration reflects the steelmaker’s keenness to adopt world-class practices and standards.
The move is in line with ‘Abu Dhabi’s plan to reduce CO2 emissions and will help the steel producer cater to local and regional demand for high-quality flat steel products.
