SAIL’s Bokaro Steel plant (BSL) and Vedanta’s Electrosteel Steels Ltd (ESL) in Bokaro, Jharkhand, were hit by COVID-19 this week when few employees tested positive. One of the three employees of ESL has been moved to his hometown in Telangana and other two are in isolation in the company hostel.

 

Few other employees have been quarantined after contract tracing was done by the medical authorities, which revealed that around 20 employees of ESL were at high risk.

 

The company is following all the safety measures and providing a proper medical treatment and care for the infected employees, said Shilpi Shukla Head of corporate communication, Vedanta ESL.

 

More than 60 employees from BSL were traced but are at low risk and sources from the company claimed to have contained the virus from spreading further inside the plant. A doctor from Bokaro General Hospital is also among those infected.

 

BSL is focusing on revamping production as lockdown affected the production for the manufacturing of naval warship cylinders ,railway wagons, diving support vessels used in submarines.
