Lebanon, Oregon-headquartered battery separator maker ENTEK has acquired the battery separation business of Japan’s Nippon Sheet Glass Co (NSG).

Under the deal for an undisclosed amount, NSG will continue to hold a minority stake in the battery separator business (BSS) with a seat on the Board of Directors in what will become ENTEK’s Japanese subsidiary.

The agreement also includes the acquisition of NSG’s BSS plants in Japan and China for polyethylene (PE) and absorbent glass mat (AGM) separators, making ENTEK the only separators firm that produces PE, AGM, and Lithium separators.

NSG and ENTEK have a joint venture in Indonesia called ENTEK NSG Separindo that uses PE separators for lead-acid and lithium batteries. The firms will continue this partnership. Moreover, ENTEK is also continuing with expanding the capacities at this plant.

The transaction is expected to conclude in August.
