New commercial vehicle sales in the EU declined by 7.2pc in January from a year ago to 141,462 units, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). 

 

In a release dated Feb 24, the ACEA noted that sales of new vans, which make up 80pc of all commercial vehicle sales in the EU, faced the worst impact. Across the member nations, all markets posted declines, with the exception of France, where sales rose by 5.7pc. 

 

Meanwhile, heavy truck (16 tonnes and over) sales fell 3.3pc to 19,227 units in January compared to the same month in 2019 while medium-heavy trucks (above 3.5 tonnes) decreased by 5.8pc on an annual basis to 22,795 units.
