The European Commission will levy an additional 25pc tariff on imports of 26 types of steel ranging from stainless hot-rolled and cold-rolled sheets, rebars and railway materials if the shipments exceed a three-year average. For orderly administration, the EC will look to move to quarterly management of all country-specific quotas. This would ensure a stable flow of imports at the same time avoiding a surge of imports for the remaining duration of the measures. The EC will also introduce a refined access regime for access to the residual quota of countries benefiting from the country-specific quota.
