Total passenger car and light commercial vehicle production in the EU and UK fell by 20pc, or 3.64mn units, in H1 2020 from a year ago, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
The decrease is both a consequence of COVID-19-induced factory shutdowns and production levels incapable of returning to pre-pandemic levels in May and June.
In the January to June period, Germany’s motor vehicle production declined by 956,090 units, while France’s dropped by 381,841units. Italy’s motor vehicle production decreased by 246,710 units, and the UK’s motor vehicle production fell by 311,927 units, according to ACEA.
