Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

European Aluminium (EA) has urged the US authorities not to impose additional duties on common alloy aluminium sheets from Croatia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey. The move comes after the US commenced anti-dumping investigations into imports from 18 countries at the behest of the US Aluminium Association.

EA cited that European producers are already reeling under the pressure of low-priced exports of aluminium products from China. Now the COVID-19 outbreak and its resulting shutdowns have made it difficult for them to tide over the situation. Against this backdrop, additional duties would be yet another blow to the producers. EA has instead suggested that the US and the European Commission should work together and deal with the challenges posed by subsidised excess aluminium capacity in China.
