European recyclers exported 7.70mn mt of ferrous scrap in January-April compared to 5.01mn mt in the same period of 2020, according to SteelData.
Of the total exports, 5.27mn mt was shipped to Turkey during the period under review, up by 58pc compared to the same timeframe a year ago and accounted for 68pc of the total exports from the region.
Shipments of the material from the EU to Egypt and Pakistan increased by 95pc and 17pc to 768,000mt and 252,000mt, respectively, in the first four months compared to January-April 2020.
European recyclers exported 323,000mt of ferrous scrap to the USA and 227,000mt to Switzerland, according to SteelData. Shipment of the material to Morocco more than doubled and reached 147,000mt in January-April, and decreased by 31pc to 161,000mt to India.
