European recyclers exported 5.94mn mt of ferrous scrap in January-March 2021 against 4.39mn mt in the same period of 2020, according to SteelData.
Of the total exports, 4.14mn mt was shipped to Turkey during the period under review, up by 41pc compared to the same timeframe a year ago and accounted for 70pc of the total exports from the region.
Shipments of the material from the EU to Egypt and Pakistan increased by 69pc and 9pc to 556,000mt and 204,500mt, respectively, in Q1 compared to the same quarter last year.
European recyclers exported 190,000mt of ferrous scrap to the USA and 170,000mt to Switzerland, according to SteelData. Shipment of the material to Morocco more than doubled and reached 132,000mt in January-March 2021, and decreased by 45pc, to 121,000mt to India.
