Russian miner and steelmaker Evraz produced 4.2pc less crude steel in the first quarter of 2021 at 3.4mn mt from 3.6mn mt during the same three-month period last year. The company attributes low output to unscheduled maintenance at its ZSMK mill in Russia. 



Crude steel output in Russia declined 6.4pc to 2.9mn mt in this quarter from 3.1mn mt during Q12020. Conversely, production in Evraz’s North American facility was up 11.4pc at 488,000mt from 438,000mt. 


Evraz mined 14.1pc more raw coking coal in the first three months of 2021 at 6.49mn mt from 5.7mn mt in Q1 2020. Coking coal concentrate production increased 13.1pc at 4.2mn mt in the current quarter from 3.7mn mt in the same prior-year period.

The company’s iron ore products output for the same quarter reduced 5.6pc at 3.4mn mt from 3.6mn mt in Q1 2020.



Total sales volumes of steel products in Q1 2021 were down 4.8pc at 3mn mt from 3.2mn mt in the same quarter period last year.

Ervaz’s sales of coking coal and iron ore were down 13.8pc and 12.4pc due to a decline in concentrate production.
