Former Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has been appointed as the chairman of Fortescue Future Industries’ (FFI) Australian unit, a subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG).
Joining Turnbull’s team is former Australian diplomat and intelligence official Nick Warner, who will offer diplomatic expertise.
Andrew Forrest, founder and majority shareholder of Fortescue, launched FFI in late 2020 to build renewable energy businesses to provide low-cost green energy.
Fortestcue Metals Group is an Australian iron ore company and with FFI, it will be in direct competition with oil giants worldwide.
According to Forrest, FFI had signed preliminary deals in Papua New Guinea and Africa.
