European recyclers exported 3.75mn mt of ferrous scrap in January-February 2021 against 2.92mn mt in the same period of 2020, according to SteelData.
Of the total exports, 2.68mn mt were shipped to Turkey during the period under review, up by 34pc compared to the same timeframe a year ago and accounted for 71pc of the total exports from the region.
Shipments of the material from the EU to Egypt and Pakistan increased by 37pc and 18pc to 280,000mt and 142,000mt, respectively, in the first two months of the year.
European recyclers exported 119,000mt of ferrous scrap to the USA and 107,000mt to Switzerland, according to SteelData. Shipment of the material to India decreased by 47pc, to 84,000mt in January-February 2021.
