After calling off their proposed joint venture, automakers Ford and Mahindra & Mahindra have ended their pact for supply of engines. Mahindra was earlier set to supply 1.2 litre petrol engine for Ford’s upgraded Ecosport.
Ford’s C-SUV which will be out in the market next year was to be fitted with Mahindra’s 2litre petrol and 2.2 litre diesel engines. Both these supply contracts stand cancelled. The C-SUV will be built on Ford Territory in China. Ford’s walk towards self sufficiency over sourcing engines from Mahindra will delay its SUV which was to be released in 2022-2023.
Similarly, plans to collaborate for C-SUV/XUV500 have also been called off. The Indian carmaker, however, is on track to launch its next generation XUV 500.
