FPX Nickel may produce refined nickel with a significantly lower carbon footprint based on a recent Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) conducted by the company at its Baptiste project in British Columbia.
The project is expected to produce 120,000mt of nickel per day or 43.8mn mt on an annual basis. It also projects a 44,932mt output of nickel contained ferronickel briquettes at 63pc nickel grading.
The PEA indicates that based on the diesel and electricity consumption of the mine to produced nickel based on the above production projection, the mine will emit 2.40mt of CO2 per mt of Ni produced.
