Germany’s industrial production fell by 3.9pc in January on an annual basis and by 2.5pc from December 2020, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
Excluding the energy sector, Germany’s production dropped by 0.5pc in January from December 2020, Destatis reported. Capital goods production dropped by 0.8pc while consumer goods production decreased by 3pc. However, intermediate goods output was up by 0.7pc in January this year from the previous month. Production in the construction sector saw a 12.2pc fall during this period.
Compared to February last year, just before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, industrial production was short by 4.2pc.
