Germany’s automobile production in the first three months of the year declined by 8pc to 933,600 units compared to the same period in 2020, according to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). 

 

In March alone, the country automobile output grew by 29pc to 373,900 vehicles from the same month last year. 

 

New vehicle registration from January to March dropped by 6pc to 656,500 vehicles from the same three-month period last year. New registration in March saw a 36pc hike to 292,350 units compared to March 2019. 

 

Registration of new passenger cars of German brands saw a 5pc drop to 473,500 vehicles in Q1 2021 compared to the quarter in 2020 while new registration in March alone saw a 36pc increase to 205,850 vehicles from March last year, VDA reported. 

 

Registration of foreign brands declined by 10pc to 183,000 cars in the January to March period from the same month in 2020 and registration of foreign brands in March alone grew by 36pc to 86,500 vehicles compared to March 2020. 

 

Germany’s export of automobile in the first three months of the year dropped by 9pc to 703,600 units from the same three-month period last year while its export in March rose by 23pc to 296,100 vehicles from the same month last year, according to VDA.
