Germany’s crude steel production last month dropped by 25pc to 2.4mn mt compared to July 2019, according to the German Steel Federation (Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl). 


The monthly production total represents Germany’s lowest since June 2009. Between January and July, the country’s crude steel output declined by 16.9pc to 19.88mn mt compared to the same seven-month period in 2019. In July alone, the Germany’s crude steel production declined by 24.7pc to 2.4mn mt from a year ago. 


Hot rolled steel output in the first seven months of the year decreased by 16.2pc on an annual basis to 17.4mn mt, and fell by 21.9pc to 2.26mn mt in July year from the same month a year ago. 


Germany saw a 19.7pc drop in its pig iron output to 12.44mn mt in the January to July period from a year ago, and saw a 28.8pc decrease to 1.54mn mt in last month compared to July 2019


The country’s electrical steel output declined by 8.8pc to 6.51mn mt in the first seven months of the year compared to same period a year ago, while it fell by 13.1pc annually in July to 758,000mt. 


Oxygen steel output was also down by 20.4pc to 13.3mn mt from January through July 2020 compared to the same period a year ago, and it decreased by 29pc to 1.66mn mt in July compared to same period last year.
