Raw steel production in Germany stood at 3.37mn mt in November, up 15pc against the same month in 2019, according to the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl). However, the federation noted that steel production in November 2019 was weak compared to the rest of that year. 


In November 2020, of the total output, 2.3mn mt was produced from blast furnaces, while electric-arc production stood at 1.12mn mt. The country also produced 2.1mn mt of pig iron and 2.7mn mt in hot-rolled steel products.

WV Stahl noted that Germany’s steel output in the first 11 months of 2020 stood at 32.5mn mt, down by almost 12pc over the same period in 2019. It also noted that production in the past year was at the lowest since 2009, attributed to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. 


The country’s pig iron output during the first 11 months of 2020 also fell by 14pc on an annual basis to 20.2mn mt, while hot-rolled steel was short by 11.6pc at 28.3mn mt during the same period under consideration.
