Germany’s crude steel production fell by 13.2pc to 2.83mn mt in August compared with the same month in 2019, according to the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl). In the first eight months of 2020, crude steel output declined by 16.5pc to 22.7mn mt from the same period last year. 

 

Hot rolled steel production in Jan-Aug decreased by 15.8pc to 20mn mt compared to the same period last year and also dipped by 13.2pc in August to 2.4mn mt from August 2019.

 

Germany witnessed a 19.1pc drop its pig iron output to 14.2mn mt in the first eight months of this year from the same period last year and a 15pc drop to 1.81mn mt in August compared to the same month in 2019. The country’s electrical steel output in the first eight months of 2020 fell by 8.5pc to 7.3mn mt compared to January to August 2019, while in August this year its electrical steel production decreased by 6.3pc to 844,000mt from the prior-year period.

 

Oxygen steel output also witnessed a 20pc drop to 15.3mn mt between January to August from the same period in 2019 and a 15.8pc drop in August of this year to 2mn mt from the same month last year.
