The GFG Alliance, which consolidated its steel assets into Liberty Steel in October 2019, is now looking to consolidate its aluminum operations with the formation of the ALVANCE Aluminum Group comprising the company’s aluminum supply chain to produce low carbon aluminum.
The new vertical’s portfolio includes ALVANCE Aluminum Dunkerque, the largest smelter in Europe, as well as ALVANCE Wheels in France, which manufactures aluminum wheels, and ALVANCE Aluminum Technologies Poitou and ALVANCE Cast Products Poitou. The company also has a conditional agreement in place to purchase Belgium’s Duffel aluminum rolling facilities.
GFG is extending its carbon neutral 2030 program to the new firm in a bid to satisfy a growing demand in the market.
Sanjeev Gupta, GFG’s chairman, said there is growing customer demand for stronger, lighter-weight, recyclable materials, and the company sees aluminum as a key area for growth and sustainable profitability. The company will be a key supplier to the European automotive and general industrial sectors, for which its low carbon option will be included.
