Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

General Motors has invested $2.2bn in Factory ZERO, formerly known as the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, which will be an all-electric vehicle assembly plant.

The company stated that the name ZERO signifies the importance of its zero-emissions, zero-crashes and zero-congestion target. This is one of GM’s largest investments and is expected to create close to 2,200 manufacturing jobs in the US.

It plans to produce its GMC HUMMER EV and Cruise Origin at this facility using its Ultium battery platform.

The company expects to source all its facilities in the US with renewable energy by 2030, and all other global facilities by 2040, it said in a statement.
