India’s major recycler, Gravita, has increased its annual lead recycling capacity by 10,200mt at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The plant’s total recycling capacity is currently 38,200mt annually which will expand. Recycled lead from the plant will cater to both the domestic and international markets.
The expansion is worth Rs10mn ($0.13mn) and the company expects revenues of Rs1.5bn to flow from this additional capacity.
Gravita’s Chittoor plant recycles the easily accessible domestic scrap collected from large telecom players, UPS, OEM’s, IT sectors and automobile workshops that are located in and around the southern markets.
The company has contracts to collect scrap across India in a cost-effective manner. The finished material is exported from the Chennai port which minimizes logistics costs. This expansion will increase the company’s presence in the South East Asian markets.
