Turkey’s Habas is expanding its hot strip mill at Aliaga by 2mn mt to 4.5mn mt annually. The present equipment was commissioned by SMS, the company also doing the expansion, in July 2014 to annually produce 2.5mn mt of hot strip.
The new upgraded rolling mill is scheduled for commissioning by early 2023. The original widths will continue at 700-2,100mm wide and strip thickness gages of 1.2-25.4mm. The mill will process slabs that are up to 225mm thick.
SMS is adding a new downcoiler (DC3) to the already installed DC1 and DC2 to help with the additional capacity. New coil strapping machines and shiftable inspection stations will be integrated seamlessly into the present automation system.
