Turkish steelmaker Habaş Sınai has ordered a new wire rod line and slab caster with electrical and automation systems from Danieli for its Aliaga steelmaking plant in Izmir.

The new wire rod line will be used to produce welding wire, reinforcement steel, and a variety of carbon and PC wire. The wire rod line is expected to be placed in operations in Q3 2021. Meanwhile, the slab caster is expected to be operational during Q4 2021, producing slabs of 1000-2100mm width, 220-225mm thickness at a casting rate of 1.8mt per minute.

Habaş presently operates a wire rod line installed in the 1990s. Danieli Automation, which recently upgraded a separate slab caster segment at the Turkish mill, will install new control systems for the new twin-strand slab caster at Aliaga. The upgrade will allow Habas to produce a wider range of steel grades including micro-alloyed grades.

Habas’ Aliaga plant has an annual crude steel capacity of 4.75mn mt. The plant also produces steel billet and rebar.
