Chinese iron and steel manufacturer HBIS steel has started construction of the world’s first Hydrogen Energy Application Pilot Project in the city of Zhangjiakou.
The project will support Hebei province’s completely green and low-carbon recycling development economic system and will be a part of the HBIS Xuansteel upgrading project.
HBIS Steel plans to conduct innovative research and development for carbon-neutral steel production, it said in a statement. It plans to implement the new Teova Energiron-ZR technology to replace traditional blast furnace processes which could help reduce 60pc carbon emission annually and will become the low carbon generation pilot plant.
