India’s only primary zinc producer, Hindustan Zinc, has extended the planned shutdown at Chanderiya lead and zinc smelter. The shutdown could lead to a production drop of 20,000mt.
The company states several structural components of the roaster need repairs to avoid operational risks. It stated, that the shutdown will result in the loss of 25,000mt. The roaster will be operational by mid-October.
The company, will, however, ensure a balanced approach to avoid difficulties for its consumers.
Hindustan Zinc has maintained a positive outlook for FY22 at 1.02-1.05mn mt, according to their Q1 press release. The company produced 188,000mt in Q1 FY22, 20pc higher than the prior year.
