Japanese auto manufacturer Honda may shut its powertrain factory in Tochigi prefecture, Japan permanently in 2025. 


The decision is based on recent environmental changes in the global auto industry, Honda noted per media reports on Friday.


Countries have expanded local production of powertrain parts leading to a supply decline in Japan. The carmaker has yet to disclose more information on the closure.
