Aluminum producer China Hongqiao has formed a joint venture with Scholz Recycling Group to build an aluminum recycling park in Binzhou, Shandong.
In an announcement on Monday, Scholz said, once operational, the park would be able to process over 181,437mt of aluminum scrap and 50,000 of scrap automobiles a year through its aluminum and auto shredders.
The German recycler, which has operations in Beijing, added that it’s designing the facility, which will eventually help meet Hongqiao’s demand for aluminum billet as raw material. To produce these billets, the facility will use separation process technology to feed its remelt plant in converting scrap into billets.
According to Scholz, aluminum produced using 1mt of recycled material saves 83pc of CO2 emissions and 94pc of energy compared with traditional production methods.
