Albras, Norsk Hydro’s part-owned primary aluminium plant in Brazil, re-started an idled production line, restoring the plant to full operational capacity. The production line was shuttered following a power outage in March, the company said.
A fire at the facility’s electric transformer in the first week of March had affected one of the four production lines. The plant had been running at 25pc reduced capacity since. Capacity utilisation at the plant will return to the usual 460,000mt in 2020.
The Albras plant in Barcarena, Pará state, is the largest primary aluminium producer in Brazil. Hydro is the majority shareholder with 51pc while Nippon Amazon Aluminum owns 49pc. The plant is located near Hydro’s Alunorte alumina refinery.
