Hydro’s Paragominas bauxite mine in Brazil is back online after a brief shutdown to repair a transmission tower, which had overturned and cut off power to the mine last week.
The company announced that the financial and operational impact due to the shutdown was minimal and that it doesn’t expect an adverse impact on customers despite the halt in production after the December 18, 2019 incident. The power outage had also reduced production at the Norwegian aluminum company’s Alunorte alumina refinery by 50-70pc.
Paragominas and Alunorte are connected by a 244 bauxite pipeline, which Hydro emptied by using backup power.
