Hyundai Motor Company’s global sales rose by 42.7pc in May and Kia’s sales increased by almost 50pc compared to the prior year.
Hyundai’s global sales in May was reported at 323,129 units, up by 42.7pc from a year ago with sales continuing to increase in North America, South America and Russia. Sales in Korea has however slipped by 12.4pc to 62,056 units. Sales outside Korea increased by 67.7pc to 261,073 units.
From January-May, Hyundai’s global sales have jumped by 28.9pc to 1,67mn units.
Kia Corporations reported total global sales at 245,994 units in May, up by 49.2pc from May 2020. Sales in Korea slipped by 6.4pc to 47,901 units. Sales outside Korea increased by 74.2pc to 198,093 units in May from the preceding year.
The sharp increase in sales can be attributed to the recovery in automotive markets since the pandemic. North America contributed strongly to sales outside Korea.
Hyundai and Kia both continue to make efforts in the ongoing threat of COVID-19 and shortage of global auto parts.
