PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (INALUM) will license technology from Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) as the former looks to develop a new smelter and upgrade an existing one.
The two companies are likely to enter a joint venture to develop the greenfield aluminum smelter in Indonesia according to an agreement signed between the two on Wednesday. In addition to technology, the agreement includes supplying raw materials and marketing the metal.
EGA’s aluminum smelting technology in the United Arab Emirates goes back over a quarter of a century and is known to be among the world’s most efficient. The company recently completed a three-year project in which it transferred DX+Ultra technology to Aluminium Bahrain for its Potline 6 expansion project.
INALUM, established in 1976 as a partnership between the Indonesian government and Nippon Asahan Aluminium, is now fully state-owned and specializes in aluminum smelting.
