Shipbreaking scrap prices in Alang declined further on Friday amid low demand due to workforce shortage at yards and rolling mills. The daily Davis Index for 6Ani declined by Rs450/mt($5.93/mt) to Rs25,150/mt ex- Alang.
The daily Davis Index for HMS attachments declined by Rs350/mt to Rs22,600/mt ex-Alang.
Many vessels have arrived at the port waiting to be sold. But shipbreakers stayed away from bidding as they continued to grapple with a scarcity of specialised labour required for the gas-cutting process. Only 20 of the usual 45-50 gas cutters are working at Alang at present, share shipbreakers.
The daily Davis Indexes for 1kg plate declined by Rs300/mt to Rs22,850/mt, 5kg plate declined by Rs350/mt to Rs25,550/mt ex-Alang.
The daily Davis Index for 8Ani declined by Rs100/mt to Rs25,750/mt, 12Ani fell by Rs200/mt to Rs26350/mt ex-Alang.
Six ships have arrived at the port in June with a total estimated tonnage of 53040.33/LDT.
