India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has initiated an anti-dumping sunset review on cold-rolled flat products of stainless steel of width 600mm to 1250mm and above exported from China, Korea, European Union, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, and the USA, according to an announcement on Sept 30.

Jindal Stainless, Jindal Stainless (Hisar), and Jindal Stainless Steelway had applied for the extension on behalf of the domestic industry.

The initial anti-dumping probe on imports of the said products was launched on Nov 25, 2008. Provisional duties were recommended on April 22, 2009, and definitive duties were levied in on Feb 20, 2010, for five years. The duty was later extended till Dec 2015.

Additionally, the applicants have approached and requested the Customs Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (Cestat) to impose duties retrospectively. The final determination in the case is awaited.

Authorities would examine the data provided by the petitioner for six months post the period of investigation to determine if the expiry could injure the domestic industry.

On Sept 29, DGTR had extended duty on hot-rolled flat products of stainless steel from China, South Korea and Malaysia.
