India’s Ministry of Finance has extended the anti-dumping (AD) duty on cold-rolled stainless steel flat products of width 600 mm to 1250 mm and above 1250mm from China, South Korea, European Union, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, and the US, till January 31, 2021, or till it’s revoked.

A sunset review for the duty was initiated on September 30 by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies at the behest of Jindal Stainless, Jindal Hissar, and Jindal Steelway. The producers, on behalf of the domestic industry, alleged the likelihood of continuation or recurrence of dumping from the said countries, which could injure Indian producers. The period of investigation (POI) review was between April 2019-March 2020, and the injury investigation period covered the periods 2016-2017,2017 -2O18, 2018- 19, and the POI.

The anti-dumping duty was first levied through a notification dated November 11, 2009. The period of investigation then was the calendar year 2017. The rate of duty differed based according to the producer and was in the range of $12.74/mt to $2,254.69/mt. Products originating from Chinese Taipei invoked the highest rate.
