Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Offers for Indian domestic shipbreaking HMS attachments rose by Rs600-800/mt ($7.9-10.5/mt) on Monday amid supply crunch. The index for HMS attachments also rose by Rs800/mt from Friday to Rs23,450/mt ex- Alang on Monday.

 

Rolling mills, which largely remained shut in March and April, are trying to increase their production. But a shortage of labour and lower availability of raw materials slowed down activity. 

 

The index for 6Ani rose by Rs325 to Rs25,625/mt ex -Alang from Friday. Trades were heard at Rs25,700/mt ex-Alang.

 

The Davis Indexes for 1kg plate rose by Rs700/mt to Rs23,650/mt, 8Ani rose by Rs250/mt to Rs25,950/mt, 5kg plate rose by Rs200/mt to Rs25,950/mt ex -Alang. The index for Melting also increased by Rs341/mt to Rs22,450/mt ex- Alang.

Shipbreakers are waiting for major mills to fully resume production. 

 

Ship deals

  1. A container ship of 7,852mt displacement at $317/LDT
  2. A container ship of 38,611mt displacement at $278/LDT

Three ships are awaiting beaching permissions, one from Japan with a displacement of 5,604mt and two from Denmark with 7,195mt displacement each. Total 15 ships are expected to anchor at Alang in the near term.
