India will impose quality restrictions on 371 items including Chinese products by March 2021 to curtail import of sub-standard goods, said media reports. The items include steel bars, steel tubes, heavy machinery, consumer electronics, rubber, paper and toys.
The government has deployed Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and ministries like steel, chemicals and petroleum have been asked to identify and finalise mandatory standards for selected imported items.
Subsequently, to make ‘Self Reliant India’ campaign successful, the country looks to bring down the imports of cheap Chinese products.
