India has launched a sunset review investigation to continue the imposition of anti-dumping duty on steel wire rod imports from China.

A petition by the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, Steel Authority of India and JSW Steel led the Indian Steel Association to review the extension of anti-dumping duty on steel wire rod imports which expires to end this year.

Tata Steel Long and Jindal Steel and Power have also supported the move, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) said in a notification.

Anti-dumping duties on steel wire rods from China were first imposed in 2016. At a primary level, evidence has been found regarding the dumping of Chinese steel wire rods which could injure the domestic steel industry if duties are not extended, especially while taking into consideration the volume and price of the steel wire rod imports from China, positive dumping margin, significant capacities of unutilized material in India, among others, added the DGTR.

The period of this investigation is set from October 2019 to March 2021.
