India’s petroleum and steel minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged his colleague Prahlad Joshi, coal and mines minister to speed up the project aimed at boosting the capacity for Nalco’s Aluminium smelter in Angul, Odisha. Pradhan urged to increase the capacity of Nalco’s smelter plant to 1mn mt from 460,000mt.

 

Nalco is undertaking a brownfield expansion project at Angul, including the construction of a 1400 MW feeder Captive Power Plant (CPP).

The cost of this project could be around Rs220bn. The project is at the land acquisition stage.

The minister in his letter stated that the feasibility of this brownfield expansion project is dependent on the adequate supply of affordable coal to the 1400 MW feeder CPP
