India exported 347,000mt of pig iron in the Apr-Dec 2019 period, up from 244,000mt in the prior year period, according to a government data.
The exports in Dec 2019 went up by 167.64pc to 91,000mt, from 34,000 in the year prior. The largest importer for Indian pig iron was Bangladesh at 121,000mt, followed by Thailand at 101,000mt.
The exports of basic pig iron were higher than the foundry grade, according to the market sources.
Exports of sponge iron also increased in the period. India exported 622,000mt of sponge iron, up by 48.44pc, from 419,000mt in Apr-Dec 2018. The exports in Dec 2019 were at 79,000mt, up from 74,00mt in Dec 2018. The largest importers of sponge iron were Bangladesh at 22,000mt, followed by Nepal at 101,000mt.
