Steel production by Indian Public Sector Units (PSUs) in July slipped by 21.5pc to 6.7mn mt from 8.6mn mt in the prior year period. The output, however, rose by 11.4pc, compared to 6.07mn mt in June.
In July, contribution of the non-alloy segment registered a decline of 20.5pc to 6.5mn mt from 8.2mn mt in June 2019. The rest came from the alloy and stainless-steel segment.

The PSUs exported 1.37mn mt of finished steel in July, up by 128pc from July 2019 backed by healthy demand in the overseas market. The imports, however, declined by 63pc to 2.93mn mt from 7.95mn mt in the prior year period amid weak demand in domestic market.
