Auto production in November inched up by 1.70pc to 2.29mn units from the previous year stated the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers (SIAM). These production figures include data for passenger vehicles, quadricycles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
Production of passenger cars is up 3pc to 171,502 units in November from the prior year. Production of two-wheelers in up 3.54pc to 1.93mn units with the highest production growth reported by mopeds at 20pc higher than previous year. Around 72,594 mopeds were produced in November.
Sales of passenger vehicles including cars, utility vehicles and vans is up by 4.65pc to 2.64mn units in November from the year prior. Passenger vehicles sales are up on the back of high demand for utility vehicles and compact SUVs said SIAM. Sales of SUVs is up by 17.16pc in November from the previous year.
Two-wheeler sales is up by 13.43pc to 1.6mn units but is not as strong as was expected in the festive season. Motorcycle sales is up 14.9pc to 1.02mn units in November from the prior year. Scooter sales rose by 9.29pc to 502,561 units. Three-wheeler sales is down by 57pc to 23,626 units in November from a year ago. Sales of mopeds rose 22pc to 70,750 units.
Sales increased primarily on account of the festive season, says SIAM’s Director Rajesh Menon. The industry’s performance going ahead would, however, be determined by the overall economic scenario, he added.
