India’s crude steel production fell by 43.1pc to 15.867mn mt in April-June from the prior-year period. Production of hot metal declined by 30.7pc to 12.995mn mt and that of finished steel dropped by 52.7pc to 12.544mn mt, according to government data. Output dropped on the back of weak demand along with logistical and manpower constraints despite some relaxations granted after the lockdown.
Crude steel production by most major steelmakers declined by 30.2pc in April-June. India’s pig iron production declined by 67.4pc in the period to 532,000mt from the prior-year period.

India’s finished steel exports slipped by 54.3pc to 8.477mn mt in April-June period from the prior year period.
In June, India’s total finished steel imports declined by 32.8pc to 1.211mn mt from the prior year month.
