India was a net exporter of steel in the April-August period this year, as exports increased by around 153pc compared to prior-year.
This was revealed by Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the parliament on Monday.
He also gave details of financial performance of two public sector steel companies, Steel Authority of India Limited (Sail) and Rasthriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL).
In 2019-20, Sail and RINL’s gross turnover stood at Rs 610.25bn and Rs159.20bn, respectively.
India’s crude steel production capacity increased from 109.85mn mt in the fiscal year 2014-15 to 142.29mn mt in 2019-20.
Domestic crude steel output increased from 88.98mn mt in the fiscal year 2014-15 to 109.14mn mt in 2019-20.
