India’s steel output in August declined by 6.3pc, compared to the prior-year period followed by refinery products, cement, natural gas, crude oil and electricity which decreased by 19.1pc, 14.6pc, 9.5pc, 6.3pc and 2.7pc, respectively, according to data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry. 

 

The cumulative index in April-August 2020-21 declined by 17.8pc as against a growth of 2.5pc in the preceding year period. 

 

India’s output of eight core infrastructure sectors dropped for sixth consecutive month by 8.5pc in August on the back of drop in steel, refinery products and cement production.

 

In August 2020, coal production, however, rose by 3.6pc while electricity generation slipped by 2.7pc, compared to the previous year.
